Dog Breeds You Should be Aware Of

All types of dogs are capable of inflicting serious injury to adults, elderly persons and children. However, certain breeds have larger teeth and more powerful jaws. • Pit bull — Worldwide, the pit bull is treated as a dangerous breed. Recently, on March 14, 2014 in Bunnell, Florida, a pit bull jumped through the window of a minivan and attacked two children. This particular breed has an especially powerful jaw that is capable of tearing through tissue with ease and even damaging bone.

• Rottweiler — The CDC found that the Rottweiler, responsible for 39 fatalities from 1979-1998, was the second most dangerous dog breed. Large, powerful and aggressive, the Rottweiler is often used by law enforcement and security agencies.

• German Shepherd — The German shepherd is prized by security agencies and militaries around the world for its high intelligence. However, the same characteristics that make this breed excellent as a guard dog also make it dangerous to children and the public, especially when startled or threatened.
